Buenos Aires, Argentina – In a significant development for the upcoming legislative elections, President Javier Milei’s party, La Libertad Avanza (LLA), has secured the top spot on the ballot in the Province of Buenos Aires, the nation’s most populous and politically crucial district. This favorable position, with key candidate José Luis Espert leading the list, is considered a major strategic advantage as the party seeks to solidify its power and advance its reform agenda.

The legislative elections on October 26, 2025, will mark a historic first for Argentina. For the first time, a nationwide Single Paper Ballot (BUP) will be used, a system championed by the Milei administration to enhance transparency, prevent ballot theft, and curb the influence of smaller “rubber stamp” parties. The BUP allows voters to choose either a complete party list or individual candidates, offering greater flexibility and a more direct voting experience.

With 17 parties vying for a share of the vote, the ballot order is a critical factor, and LLA’s prime placement at the top is expected to boost its visibility and appeal to undecided voters. While LLA and its allies aim for a decisive victory, the Kirchnerist party, Fuerza Patria, will be positioned in the fourth spot.

This new electoral landscape, coupled with the elimination of the previously mandatory PASO primaries, signals a transformative moment for Argentina’s political system. The move away from the expensive and often confusing primary system is seen as a win for both fiscal responsibility and electoral clarity. The outcome of this election will be pivotal in determining the balance of power in Congress and the future trajectory of President Milei’s government.
