Following La Libertad Avanza’s (LLA) decisive victory in Buenos Aires City’s legislative elections, President Javier Milei is accelerating efforts to forge an electoral alliance in Buenos Aires Province, deliberately excluding former President Mauricio Macri from the negotiations.

The Milei administration is engaging directly with prominent PRO figures such as Cristian Ritondo and Diego Santilli, aiming to integrate them into the libertarian movement. This strategy seeks to consolidate opposition forces against the ruling Peronist government in the province, led by Governor Axel Kicillof.

Karina Milei, the President’s sister and Secretary General of the Presidency, is recognized as the chief architect of LLA’s recent electoral success and is playing a pivotal role in shaping the terms of the prospective alliance. Eduardo “Lule” Menem, a key national organizer for LLA, is facilitating ongoing discussions with PRO leaders, while presidential advisor Santiago Caputo leverages his longstanding relationships with Ritondo and Santilli to advance the negotiations.

The proposed alliance aims to attract voters disillusioned with traditional parties, particularly those seeking alternatives to Peronism. By incorporating influential PRO figures, LLA intends to broaden its appeal and strengthen its political base in the province.

President Milei has openly stated that the alliance is progressing “independently of Macri,” signaling a clear departure from the former president’s influence. This move underscores a strategic shift within Argentina’s center-right politics, as Milei positions LLA as the leading force in the opposition.

While the final agreement is still in development, the ongoing negotiations indicate a significant realignment in Argentina’s political landscape, with LLA emerging as a dominant player in the center-right arena.
