Buenos Aires, Argentina – President Javier Milei has appointed Lisandro Catalán as the new Minister of the Interior, according to an official announcement from Chief of Staff Guillermo Francos. The decision, made after a meeting at the Casa Rosada with the President and Economy Minister Luis “Toto” Caputo in attendance, marks a strategic step for the administration in its relationship with the provinces.

Catalán, who served as Francos’s second-in-command, was responsible for maintaining dialogue with provincial leaders. In his new ministerial role, he will focus on continuing this contact, but with a specific emphasis on governors who “share the spirit of change.” This statement by Francos suggests a limitation in dialogue, which could exclude opposition leaders such as Peronist Governor Axel Kicillof.

The appointment comes at a time when the government is looking to resume dialogue with provinces that are aligned with its policies to implement structural reforms. Following the announcement, President Milei called a third cabinet meeting for the week to establish management priorities before the start of the national campaign for the October 26th elections.
