Buenos Aires, Argentina – In a move to address sector demands, the government of President Javier Milei, through the Ministry of Human Capital, has announced a 7.5% salary increase for the teaching and non-teaching staff of national universities. This increase will be applied in a staggered manner between September and November 2025.
In addition to the percentage increase, non-teaching staff will receive a fixed sum of 25,000 pesos per position. For teaching staff, exclusive dedication roles will receive the same amount, while simple dedication roles and pre-university positions will receive a proportional amount. The government highlighted that the cumulative increase between January 2024 and May 2025 had already reached 111%.
The Ministry of Human Capital has framed this decision as part of a policy aimed at “guaranteeing the functioning and development” of universities, emphasizing that salary updates follow the guidelines set for the National Public Administration. However, university unions have expressed their rejection, arguing that the increase is insufficient to counteract the loss of purchasing power due to inflation. Despite the objections, the government maintains its stance of prioritizing salaries within the state structure.
