The government of Javier Milei has authorized a multi-million dollar advance to several provinces in a strategic move designed to reactivate the legislative agenda and accelerate structural reforms in Congress. Through a decree enabling disbursements of up to 400 billion pesos in coparticipation advances, the administration aims to ease the fiscal situation of various jurisdictions while securing the necessary support for key laws such as the Glacier Law and the Hojarasca project.
This injection of resources reaches 12 provinces, including both allied districts and those maintaining an opposition stance. Among the beneficiaries are Chaco, Mendoza, Salta, Tucumán, Catamarca, and Misiones, along with La Rioja, Tierra del Fuego, Chubut, Corrientes, Río Negro, and Santa Cruz. The measure addresses a decline in tax revenue during the first quarter of the year and seeks to prevent provincial administrations from resorting to external debt with excessive interest rates, maintaining financial discipline under the supervision of the Ministries of Interior and Economy.
The executive’s strategy focuses on seizing a political window of opportunity before next year’s electoral calendar begins. By unlocking these funds, the Milei government aims to improve relationships with provincial leaders and ensure that allied blocs in the Chamber of Deputies have sufficient territorial backing to pass economic deregulation initiatives. The administration considers strengthening the fiscal bond with the provinces vital for maintaining a proactive agenda and dominating the media debate with concrete legislative achievements.
This outreach has even reached governors historically at odds with the central government, who have shown greater openness to dialogue and adherence to national policies like the RIGI or the Single Paper Ballot in the face of the revenue crisis. With this massive advance, Javier Milei reaffirms his political management capacity to guarantee governability and advance the path of economic transformation, prioritizing fiscal balance and state modernization across all Argentine territory.
