President Javier Milei will depart for Rome on Thursday, April 24, to attend the funeral of Pope Francis, scheduled for Saturday, April 26, at 10:00 a.m. local time in St. Peter’s Basilica. Accompanying him will be a select delegation of six senior government officials:
-
Karina Milei, Secretary General of the Presidency
-
Guillermo Francos, Chief of Cabinet
-
Gerardo Werthein, Minister of Foreign Affairs
-
Sandra Pettovello, Minister of Human Capital
-
Patricia Bullrich, Minister of National Security
-
Manuel Adorni, Presidential Spokesperson
This streamlined delegation reflects the government’s commitment to austerity and respect for the late pontiff, whom many consider the most influential Argentine in history. The Secretary of Worship and Civilization, Nahuel Sotelo, will welcome the delegation in Rome and coordinate their itinerary.
The funeral is expected to draw numerous global leaders, including Donald Trump, Emmanuel Macron, Giorgia Meloni, Volodymyr Zelensky, and Ursula von der Leyen. Notably, Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend, though official representation from Russia is anticipated.
In Argentina, the government has declared seven days of national mourning in honor of Pope Francis.
